Thera Trust is delighted to be leading the Strathmartine heritage project alongside the University of Dundee, Advocating Together, the Living Memory Association and the Dundee Local History Group.

The project

fundingThe Strathmartine Heritage project will become a powerful record of a key element of social history. The project secured £69,200 in funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in April 2014.

The project will empower former residents and staff  at Strathmartine Hospital to tell their stories through a range of channels. It aims to influence policymakers, professionals and the wider public to make sure that people are no longer institutionalised because of their disability.

About Strathmartine

institutionStrathmartine Hospital was an institution created in the nineteenth century for people with a learning disability.

It was originally part of an asylum and orphanage in Baldovan, on the outskirts of Dundee. It was decommissioned in the late 1980s and closed in 2003.
