Unity Pies

Unity Pies is a social enterprise project from Unity Works. The delicious pies are made by chefs with a learning disability using fresh and tasty ingredients.

Unity Pies is a social enterprise project based in London. The pies are made from the freshest ingredients by chefs with a learning disability.

During the Coronavirus Pandemic, Unity Works cafés were forced to close, meaning that teaching and learning would have to move online. Students and staff were all willing to make the most of this remote time though, and a “Lunchtime cookalong” was started.

Students would follow a recipe together which would alternate each week. After a few weeks of creating and inventing, the decision was taken that these cookalong sessions could be used to make a product that Unity Works could sell while the social enterprise cafés were closed!

The decision was made to focus on creating pies of various flavours, and styles. These would be designed and tested by the Unity Works chefs.

Different combinations were tried, with friends and family being willing taste testers! After researching and tasting many different recipes, the perfect pies were decided!

These delicious flavours are:

  • Chicken and Mushroom
  • Forest Fruits
  • Squash and Lentil.

Unity Pies are tasty whether they’re hot or cold, and are available for delivery to any event,  home or workplace including your deli, pub, or venue!

Chicken and Mushroom

This pie is a classic done to perfection. A hearty pie filled to the brim with tasty chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce. Contains: Filling: Chicken breast, mushrooms, garlic, white onion, chicken stock, rosemary, MILK, salt, cream fraiche, (MILK), (vegan spread) ​ Pie Crust: Flour (GLUTEN), butter, egg.

Forest Fruits

This is a mash-up between a crumble and a sweet pie. The pastry case is filled with fresh apple and forest fruits and finished with a delicious crumble topping. Contains: Filling: Cooking apples, fruits of the forest (raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, redcurrants), sugar Pastry case: Plain flour (GLUTEN), vegan spread, salt.

Squash and Lentil

This vegan beauty is the star of tastings. It’s packed full of lentils, squash, spinach and Middle Eastern inspired spices. Contains: Filling: Squash, brown lentils, red onion, garlic, spinach, raisins, ground coriander, ground cinnamon, ground cumin Pie crust: Plain flour (GLUTEN), vegan spread, soya milk (SOYA), salt
