Kitty’s career progression in Thera East

Kitty, Community Support Leader for Thera East, shares her experiences of working in Thera East.

Before joining Thera, I had been working as a Support Worker with another company for about six years. Now I’m a Team Coordinator for Thera East and I really love my job.

The difference I have found with Thera is we are very person-centred in our approach. I also think it’s fantastic that we employ people with a learning disability as Service Quality Directors, to make sure that people are happy with the quality of the support they receive.

Since day one, my manager has been amazing in helping me grow and develop within my role. This has included completing an NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care, as well as attending leadership days and other useful training sessions.

Being able to have such a positive impact on people’s lives is what I love most about the job but I’m also really proud of supporting three gentlemen into their own home in Brightlingsea.

With our help, the gentlemen recruited a whole new team of 10 people to support them. They were involved in all the interviews and discussed what they enjoyed doing, so we could match them up with Support Workers who shared their interests. The team we have recruited is amazing, everyone is so kind and compassionate. It has been wonderful to be a part of.

Following on – It has now been a further year and I am a Community Support Leader! I worked hard for my interview, and my Operational Manager Richard has guided me through what I need to do to thrive in my role. I feel like I can really make a difference to people’s lives and wake up each day knowing I am going to make a change. It is exciting to put teams together who are compatible with the people we support and will offer them an amazing quality of life. Being a support worker, Senior Support Worker and Team Co-Ordinator has built my skills, knowledge and confidence up to become a CSL, and I feel now that I can achieve outstanding results alongside Thera East. I feel proud to work for such a fantastic company who are inclusive, not for profit and driven to ensure the people we support live life to their fullest.
