From Support Worker to Operational Manager – Stacey’s Career Story

Posted 03/04/2026

In today’s blog, Stacey talks about her career progression from a Support Worker to an Operational Manager and how she’s adapted along the way.

I joined Thera in 2011 as a Support Worker, with limited previous experience but a strong willingness to learn. Within my first year, I progressed into the role of Team Coordinator, where I developed a wide range of skills, including rota management, leading and mentoring teams, and supporting the transfer and implementation of new support.

After several years in this role, I felt ready for a new challenge and was successful in securing the position of Community Support Leader. This role provided invaluable learning opportunities, with no two days the same, and allowed me to further develop my leadership, problem-solving, and service-delivery skills. I remained in this role for approximately five years, gaining extensive experience and confidence.

Following a period of maternity leave after the birth of my first child, I noticed a rare opportunity to apply for the role of Operational Manager. I decided to apply and was delighted to be successful. I have now been in this role for over five years, continuing to grow both professionally and personally.

Throughout my time with Thera, I have worked across a variety of types of support, including Supported Living, Community Support, and Day Opportunities. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities to build on my knowledge and experience.

I feel extremely fortunate to have worked—and continue to work—with such dedicated and supportive colleagues, many of whom play a vital role in my ability to succeed. I look forward to continuing my journey with Thera and contributing for many years to come.
