Posted 09/08/2022

We interviewed Sam Hardman, Operational Manager at Thera North who gave us some great insight into her career with Thera.

Can you talk us through your career path at Thera? What position did you start in and what was your journey to where you are today?

In October 2006 I started in the role of Senior Support Worker. I joined Thera North at the beginning of their journey, and was involved in supporting people to move into their own home in Lancashire, the first time we had provided support here.

In January 2007, I applied and was successful for a role of Team Leader which I held for 5 years. During this time, I helped 3 more people move into their own homes in Lancashire.

In 2012 there was a restructure and the new roles of Community Support Leader and Team Coordinator were introduced. Following an assessment day, I was recruited into the post of Community Support Leader; a position I held until 2014 when I took my current role as Operational Manager for Thera North.

What would you say to someone starting out at Thera about the career opportunities here?

I think if you are willing to work hard and learn from those around you, there are lots of opportunities to develop in your career at Thera.

What have been the highs and lows of your journey with Thera so far?

I have had so many highs whilst working for Thera, I guess that’s why I am still here almost 16 years later. The job can at times be hard, especially when people who you have worked with for a long time pass away, but seeing people achieve and living the lives they choose helps to keep you motivated and always striving for the best for people.

What would do you think has enabled you to have a successful career with Thera?

I have always been open to new challenges, whether that be supporting different people or delivering training I will give anything a try, I think that broad experience helps you to be prepared for most situations.

What advice would you give someone if they wanted a career with Thera?

Talk to those people who are recruiting, get to know about the role and the expectations.
