Thera East Anglia Community Support Leader Sheraley has been nominated for a Department of Health and Social Care award, and will now attend a Royal Garden Party

The awards recognise excellence in the health and social care field. Nominees are invited to a Royal Garden Party to celebrate their achievements.

The nomination came following Sheraley’s hard work during the Covid-19 pandemic. She has gone above and beyond in helping to organise events for the people she supports. The award also recognises the work of Sheraley’s colleague Jen, and the great work they do as a team for the people supported by Thera East Anglia.

In particular, the nomination mentioned several specific occasions where Sheraley and Jen had gone above and beyond to support people.

One mentioned occasion was when Sheraley and Jen supported J to leave his family home at least three times a week to allow him to have a break from the family home. It gave him the opportunity to explore the local community safely during lockdown. Sheraley often provided the support for J herself to reduce the chances of infection as much as possible.

Another person supported by Thera East Anglia normally went on holiday to Spain to visit a family member. Because of travel restrictions, that wasn’t possible. Sheraley and Jen supported the gentleman and his family to take a trip to the Norfolk Broads instead.

In May 2020, Sheraley organised a carnival weekend for the people she supports. The socially distanced event included old school favourites like a Hook a Duck, Bean Bag Throw, and a Photo Booth.

Sheraley helped to organise a wild west themed 70th birthday party during the lockdown. The person supported loved all things western and was given a particularly special treat when a real pony turned up!

Speaking of Sheraley’s achievement, Justin Smith, Operational Manager for Thera East Anglia said:

“It is wonderful that Sheraley is being recognised in this way and it is so well-deserved. It is great to add this to all the other good news stories we can celebrate despite the challenges we have faced due to the pandemic. The work Sheraley and her team has done to achieve things for people we support is exactly what Thera East Anglia is about!”
Congratulations Sheraley and Jen, and we hope you have a great time at the Royal Garden Party!
