Thera East Midlands are Going the Distance!

Posted 16/03/2021

Our amazing team at Thera East Midlands are walking 131 miles, the distance from their two furthest houses of residence, to raise money to help the people they support coming out of lockdown.

With beer garden evenings, coffee catch ups, and a good old hug seeming like a distant memory, we have some hope on the horizon and are looking forward to reconnecting with friends and family. Staff at Thera East Midlands want to celebrate by creating an event to support people with a learning disability to reform bonds of friendship and family.

On Monday 22 March, Thera East Midlands’ Senior Management team are setting off to walk a total of 131 miles over two weeks to raise money for a celebration event. This event will reunite the people we support and reform bonds of friendship and family that have been separated for so long. 131 miles is the distance between the two furthest houses of the people we support, and represents the distance felt by lockdown, isolation, and shielding.

When asked why she was walking to support people with a learning disability coming out of lockdown, Stacey said “The people we support have been amazing from start to finish and I would love to give them something amazing to look forward to in return!”
Yvonne tells us about how well the people she supports have coped with lockdown “I think the people we support have been absolutely incredible during lockdown, showing true resilience and patience – I think we can sometimes underestimate peoples’ abilities to adapt, change, and cope with what life throws at us, turning negatives into positives.”
