Managing your benefits

Dosh is an independent company in the Thera Group. They help lots of people with a learning disability to manage their money, including their benefits.

Dosh is an independent company in the Thera Group. Dosh can help you and your family to manage this money and also:

  1. Be your financial advocate if you only want a bit of support to manage your benefits.
  2. Be your appointee if you can’t manage your benefits by yourself.

If Dosh is your Financial Advocate they will:

  • Do a benefits check to make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.
  • Help you apply for benefits, such as moving from Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

If Dosh is your appointee, they will:

  • Do a benefits check to make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.
  • Apply for the benefits you are eligible for.
  • Set up a Dosh bank account for you, so you can receive your benefit payments.
  • Manage your benefit payments so you can have control over how your money is spent.

Dosh can also give you help and advice on other things, for example if you want to get a job but you are not sure how it might affect your benefits.

You do not have to be supported by Thera to get support from Dosh. However, if you are supported by Thera then help from Dosh may be included in your support package. Please check with your staff team to see if this is the case.
