About The A-Head Club
The A-Head Club was set up in 2009 by Thera East. In 2009 there were very few places for people with a learning disability to go where they could socialise and do the activities they enjoy. We recognised that not everybody has the support or budget available to do lots of activities every week, but we felt that these things should not stop people having an active social life. That’s why we set up The A-Head Club.
15 years on, we believe it is vital to continue providing low-cost sessions and social events for people with a learning disability in our community. Without them, people risk being lonely and isolated. Our sessions help people develop their independence, build and maintain friendships, and to try new things.
What do we offer?
We offer our sessions on a pay as you go basis. This means you can attend the sessions every week or whenever you like.
Our activities change each week and we hold regular meetings where ideas can be suggested for future activities.

We offer sessions every Tuesday and Friday at the Westbury Community Centre in Bury St Edmunds. Sessions start at 9:30am and finish at 3:30pm.
Why choose sessions with The A-Head Club
- Low cost
- Pay as you go: no commitment to attend every week
- Varied sessions: learn new skills, try new things and meet new people!
- A safe space, where everyone is welcome!
Most people who attend the A-Head Club either come independently or bring their own support such as a family member, friend, or paid support worker.
If you need support to attend a session, please speak to us first as we may be able to provide this, but this will be charged separately to your session fee.
