Health and happiness underpins everything we do at Unity Works, so of course we are delighted to be taking part in the Bromley By Bow Summer of Wellbeing Festival on 23rd August. This festival brings the community together to join in with free activities, learning and fun. All around the theme of Health & Wellbeing.
Did you know that around 90% of the time, underlying issues relating to health and wellbeing present a significant barrier to the progress of individuals with learning disabilities on their employment journey?
We normally see a combination of mental health issues (predominantly low confidence and anxiety); diet and lifestyle choices that cause poor physical health; and social isolation – which further creates heightened anxiety around integrating in the community. Even upon moving into employment, people struggle to fill their spare time and need positive support networks to keep them on track.
Events such as this Summer of Wellbeing Festival help to reduce social isolation, boasting people’s confidence to engage in the community, feeling connected and knowing more about what is going on. And they are a lot of fun!
So please come and find our stall on the day. Say hello, grab some homemade lemonade and fruit salad boxes from our social enterprise café at the Centre.
