Two people supported represented Thera (Scotland) recently at the Midlothian Futures Fair.

Thera (Scotland) recently attended the Midlothian Futures Fair on Wednesday 2 April 2025. The event was put on by Midlothian Council and exists for young people with a learning disability or autism and their parents or loved ones to network and discover information about the transition from child to adult services and the type of support available for people post school.

Drew, Cathy and Charlie attending the fair.

The event was unique in that representing that we had two young gentlemen that we provide support too, Charlie and Drew, who attended with their support worker Cathy. Charlie and Drew were able to share their own experiences and unique perspectives on transitioning from child services and the types of support that can be provided. They did an incredible job there and were able to properly explain the options available and the impact such support has had on their own lives.

The Midlothian Futures Fair was also an opportunity for providers to network and meet other organisations. Our team at Thera (Scotland) met local organisations that offer a variety of activities which may be of benefit to the people that Thera (Scotland) supports. A particular highlight of this was discussions around setting up a 5 a side football league with people supported by Thera (Scotland) and various other providers. This will provide a fun environment and promote healthy and positive practices and also help the people we support to socialise and access their community.

Diane, Operations Manager at Thera (Scotland) said:

The event was a huge success and us having Charlie and Drew there was amazing. They were able to use their own experiences to explain the types of support on offer and help to answer questions and alleviate concerns. I think that the people who attended had their questions answered and left with a much greater understanding of the types of support available for themselves, or their loved ones.
