Thera East’s Beach Hut: Our Story

Many of the people supported by Thera East love to visit the seaside. We discovered that there was a real lack of disabled access facilities which made it difficult to properly enjoy the seaside.

In 2014 Thera East began a fundraising project to open an accessible beach hut at Dovercourt Beach, Harwich.

In 2016 we purchased 109 Dolphins Bay, Dovercourt, Harwich and began a renovation project to make the beach hut more accessible, finally opening in May 2019 for our local community to enjoy.

Since then, people with and without a learning disability have been able to enjoy Dovercourt’s stunning scenery at our Beach Hut, whilst supporting a local non-profit organisation which directly impacts the local community.

Thera East uses all the money from bookings to operate, maintain and improve the beach hut as an accessible option for a lovely day out.

If you are looking for a day out by the beach and want to give back to your local community by doing so, contact Julie Small at [email protected] to enquire about bookings.
