Non-executive directors

At Thera we are always looking for new non-executive directors. Although the role is unpaid, joining one of our boards means you can have a positive impact on the lives of people with a learning disability – the people who are always at the centre of everything we do. We want to hear from you if you share our Vision and have the skills, dedication and time to help shape our organisation and develop its strategy for the future.

About us

Thera is a charitable group that works across large parts of England and Scotland. We support people with a learning disability, who have many ambitions and a range of complex support needs, to live the life they choose. Thera has developed from a single company in 1998 to the group of companies it is today. Thera Group is led by Thera Trust the charity. Thera Trust sets the Vision and charitable purpose, and acts as the parent company in setting the overall strategic direction for the group. We support around 3,000 people and have an annual turnover of over £80m.

The group provides support, and a range of specialist services through 15 subsidiary companies, each with its own board of directors and management team. Our structures enable local focus, control, accountability and leadership by people with lived experience of a learning disability. Through our companies, Thera supports people at home, in the local community and for short breaks. We also offer specialist services in financial advocacy, housing, circles of support, employment, and training.

About you

Please contact us if you can offer:

  • A strong commitment to our person-led approach and Thera’s Vision
  • Experience working at a senior level in accountancy or finance
  • A willingness to promote the rights of people with a learning disability
  • A strategic perspective and the ability to prioritise between competing demands
  • The ability to monitor and assess company performance and key risks
  • Good listening skills and an understanding of how to add constructively to discussions.
  • A willingness to challenge respectfully when necessary
  • An eagerness to build new relationships and become part of a team

Although previous board experience is desirable, we are happy to receive applications from people looking for a first board role. Please note that this is a voluntary role, though we will reimburse your reasonable expenses.
