Jordan Allan attends Enable’s quarterly self-advocacy forum

Service Quality Director Jordan Allan recently represented Thera (Scotland) at Enable’s quarterly self-advocacy forum.

In 2025, Jordan Allan, Service Quality Director for Thera (Scotland), has had a focus on outreach and building the profile of Thera (Scotland) to share their model of support and the benefits of both co-production, and having leaders with lived experience. Recently, he and his Executive Assistant, Sonia, made the trip to Inspire House in Motherwell to attend the quarterly self-advocacy forum held by Enable. Enable is an organisation dedicated to a fairer and more equal society and campaign for change, support people into work and education, and advocate for people with lived experience of a learning disability to build relationships within their local communities.

The self-advocacy forums are an opportunity for people with lived experience of a learning disability to come together and discuss the issues affecting them, sharing in ideas, solutions, and support for one another. Jordan went into detail about the event with us:

The event brings people in the learning disability space together and allows them to discuss the issues of the day in a supportive environment. For example there was a parent there who was discussing restraint and seclusion in schools and her journey to get a bill passed called Calum’s law.

The event gave Jordan the opportunity to share the work that Thera (Scotland) does to benefit those with lived experience of a learning disability through the delivery of person centred, high quality, individually tailored support both at home and in the community. All told, Jordan believed the event was a huge success for all involved and a huge benefit to those within the learning disability space.

It was great to attend this event hosted by Enable and speak about the work being done by our incredible operational staff at Thera (Scotland).
