Thera (Scotland) recently held the first event of their 2025 Being Heard calendar! The event took place on Tuesday 17 July and was held at the St John’s & Newton Church in Dalkeith, a spot that has been used before at previous Being Heard events and is noted for its accessibility and its convenient location.

The event was organised by Service Quality Director, Jordan Allan, and his new Executive Assistant, Sonia Shokar, and is designed to provide the people supported by Thera (Scotland) the opportunity to socialise, share thoughts and concerns about their support, and come together to discuss the issues affecting them. The theme of this event was transport and accessibility and people were able to share their thoughts ad experiences regarding how lived experience can affect the use of public transport, and the ways it could be improved.
The event has been designed to include the people we support as much as possible, and to help them to build skills and feel comfortable being involved. This event was co-hosted by Alexander, a young gentleman that Thera (Scotland) supports, seen here hosting the event alongside Jordan.
Jordan discussed the importance of co-production with the people we support below:
It is really important to us that we include people we support in our events. David who we support was helping with welcoming people and with tea’s and coffee’s. Alexander who is a person supported co-presented the event alongside myself. The people we support chose the topic of Transport at our last Being Heard Event in December. It is really important people are able to choose how our events are run. I look forward to involving more people in our events moving forward.
The event was also attended by Suzanne Langford-Commins, Managing Director of Thera (Scotland), who attends the events to ensure the people supported, staff, and their loved ones, have a direct line to the leadership of the organisation.
