Unity Works runs free adult community learning courses in Greenwich for people with a learning disability wanting to develop self-confidence, to learn new skills and to improve their understanding of their local community. The courses listed here are fully funded by the Royal Borough of Greenwich through their adult community learning provision – Greenwich Learns. Confident in the Community: This course will support you to build your independent travel skills. We will cover building confidence in going out in the community and using public transport, increasing your knowledge of local transport routes and landmarks, improving your confidence in your independent living skills and building a wider network of friends, contacts and life opportunities.
Let’s Talk Working and Searching: This course will cover different sessions to help manage your mental health whilst job seeking. For example, we explore learning how to recognise and manage your emotions, finding ways to stay positive and motivated, finding ways to manage stress and worry and presenting yourself positively.
Staying Well: Mind & Wellbeing. On this course you will help you to manage and understand your emotions, understand how you can improve your mental health and wellbeing and your relationships with others. You will also find out about the support available to and find opportunities within the community that you can get involved in.
Staying Well: Hearts and Bodies. This course supports you in understanding how to lead a healthy lifestyle and increase your independent living skills. On this course, you will explore different long term health conditions and identify ways to positively manage them. We will also go out into the community to explore options such as leisure centres and opportunities to help you improve your health.
Using Your Voice 2!: This course covers how to participate in your local community, explore your potential, understand your rights and set attainable personal goals. On this course, you will build your confidence in voting, understand your rights, learn more about local decision making and look at ways in which you can participate in your local area through volunteering in community projects
My Career: This course will support you to explore different pathways to employment and to take the steps needed for you to start and build their chosen careers. We will cover understanding the importance of goal setting; interview techniques (including online interviews); an online application masterclass; identifying and improving your key skills; communicating with managers and colleagues; and preparing for life in work.
